PEORIA- Peoria Mayor Jim Ardis is planning a trip to Botswana to scout for a possible new sister city.
Peoria already has ties to cities in Germany, Ireland and China. Ardis said having sister cities helps business relationships, student exchanges and cultural ties.
Ardis said Botswana has something special that might help one Peoria business in particular.
"Not to mention the diamond mining that they do over there. I think that we have some large dealers in Peoria and in the state that may be interested in going over there to establish or reestablish relationships with folks at the diamond mines over there," Ardis said.
Ardis will be in Botswana the fourth week in February to check out other areas that might benefit the River City.
