BLOOMINGTON- Police Chief Randy McKinley is offering a few tips for the next top cop.
While McKinley's replacement has not yet been found, the chief hopes his successor will continue to have conversations with the community.
We caught up with him at a focus group meeting tonight.
He says hearing from residents "one on one" helps the department better understand what's happening on city streets.
He hopes the next chief continues to hold meetings with the public.
"Bringing the public into the fold and being honest and open...telling them what the problems are and asking for help, you can't do it in modern policing without them," explained McKinley.
His last day is January 18th.
He's moving south, to be the police chief in St. Charles, Missouri.
