PEORIA - The village of
Morton says 2012 was a huge year for the local economy.
The Morton Economic
Development Council held its annual luncheon Wednesday. In the first year of its
new five year plan the Jennifer Daly, C.E.O of Morton EDC, said the village
exceeded its goals.
Those improvements
include the addition of 152 new jobs, 12 business and multiple business
expansions.
Daly also said the
council also proud of a completed design for a proposed community plaza to
hopefully start construction in 2014. Talks
of new indoor water park continued. Daly says the EDC completed a financial
study and looked at similar venues elsewhere, but is still looking for a
developer.
"Well you know it
all depends on finding that right partner. So it's a very large project and it's
going to take right developer to make it work with us. So we're still pursuing
that partnership," Daly said.
Daly said it has not
picked out a location for a potential water park. The village also cashed in
nearly $4 million in sales tax in 2012.
