WOODFORD COUNTY- A retired Roanoke-Benson School District bookkeeper pleads guilty today to stealing nearly $1.2 million from the district and is sentenced to eight years in prison.
Katherine Capponi, 74, worked for the Roanoke-Benson School District for 42 years.
She'll have to pay the district $235,000 within the next month.
The rest is due within two years of her prison release.
An investigation into Capponi's actions began last year after her replacement noticed funding shortfalls.
The district superintendent says changes have been made to ensure this never happens again.
