A retired Roanoke Benson School District bookkeeper pleaded guilty Tuesday to stealing over a million dollars from the district and was sentenced to 8 years in prison. 74 year old Katherine Capponi, who worked for the school district for 42 years, will have to pay the district 235,000 dollars in the next 30 days. The rest will be due within two years after her prison release. An investigation was launched shortly after Capponi retired in January of last year after Capponi's replacement noticed funding shortfalls. Roanoke Benson Superintendent Dr. Rohn Peterson said in a statement Tuesday afternoon that the district is pleased with the outcome and has implemented changes to make sure this doesn't happen again.
