Atlanta Launches First Annual Route 66 Art Contest

LOGAN COUNTY- A new spin on a classic highway could drive up tourism in Atlanta.
The community is launching its first annual Route 66 Reinterpreted Art Project.
Painters, photographers and designers are invited to dress up blank highway placards.
The only requirement is that the words "Illinois U.S. 66" must be displayed somewhere on the sign.
It costs $25 to enter the contest.
Artwork will be displayed downtown, allowing visitors to vote on their favorite.
"Anyone, anywhere in the world can enter," said contest organizer Bill Thomas. "We actually sent press releases to several Route 66 Associations in Europe and in Asia in addition to associations across the United States."
Up to 50 people ages 16 and over can enter.
The top five winning signs will be permanently displayed in downtown Atlanta.
