PEORIA- At 1:50 Tuesday morning, the River City welcomed in it's first baby of 2013.
Braydon Newcomb weighed seven pounds and 13 ounces, a happy healthy baby boy.
"I kept saying yesterday, I had a new years date and I hope he didn't stand me up. And I was talking about him, so he didn't. He showed up," said proud mom, Peggy Kelch. She and fiance Larry Newcomb say the birth day was a surprise, their bundle of joy was born a few days ahead of schedule.
"I was hoping, but I didn't know for sure and all day he kept telling me it wasn't going to happen, but then it did," Kelch said.
"There was a lot of hype about the first baby of the year," Newcomb said.
They said even the staff at Methodist Medical Center were eager for the arrival of this baby boy.
"They told us when we got here that nobody had had a baby yet, so they were all excited," Kelch said.
And there's one thing that makes this new year's surprise even more special.
"This is our first baby together, so now we can be a family. I have two boys of my own and she has two of her own so this kind of joins everybody," Newcomb said.
The couple said it was a wonderful way to ring in 2013.
"Great way to start the new year," Newcomb said.
