PEORIA- With it being the start of the new year - expect gyms to start getting crowded.
This is one of the busiest times of the year for fitness.
And it all has to do with a New Year's resolution.
Trainers at Landmark Health Center in Peoria say, on the average, they get fifty new members in a month. In January, they expect to quadruple that.
"We get packed," said Landmark Supervisor Chrystal Maclin. "It gets busy. But we love to see it busy though."
And why does it get busy? New Year's resolutions!
"We have a lot of people come in and around the first of the year," said Maclin. "Their goal is to maintain their weight. They may have New Years goals to reach strength and core."
Landmark member Ryan Lowry said, "The image of fitness and what is attractive. It makes people want to be fit and to lose weight and look athletic."
Lowry notices around this time of the year - it is usually harder to reserve equipment.
"The first day of the year, the week after Thanksgiving, the week before Spring Break are usually busy times," he added. After that, it slows down a bit."
But these guys don't mind seeing the gym packed.
"We love to see new people coming in," said Maclin. "We like to see old faces as well. We do have a lot of former members that have drifted away but are coming back."
"It is good to see new people coming around," Lowry said. "It is good to see the regulars too, but it is good to see new people get in to fitness. New people tend to ask questions and to be a little more energetic. And it brings energy to people who are already here."
Last January, Landmark says one hundred and seventy members registered.
They hope to sign up two hundred this January.
