PEORIA- What do you get with 270 pounds of green beans, 75 pounds of fried onions, and 140 pounds of cream of mushroom soup?
The largest green bean casserole in central Illinois!
You've seen him on WMBD's Living Well and now, Chef Mark Shoopman and his team from The Lutheran Hillside Village are cooking up a big idea for the South Side Mission.
This gigantic casserole will feed nearly 2,000 people this Christmas day.
The South Side Mission delivers meals and invites people to come dine-in for a full-fledged Christmas dinner.
It's the first time Chef Mark has cooked for the Mission's holiday meal.
He thought he'd start with a bang, and maybe even break a record
"Gave it a little thought, we wanted to help the City of Peoria. Times are so tough and we went to some of our purveyors and asked if they'd be able to help us out, help the City of Peoria. It's kind of a win, win. Everyone stepped up to the plate," adds Shoopman.
All of the ingredients for the casserole were donated.
The South Side Mission says they still need monetary donations and prayers.
