EAST PEORIA - Some East Peoria kids took a special shopping spree with local cops.
Twenty local kids were able to shop for the holidays, courtesy of the East Peoria police department and Walmart.
The kids met up with the officers at the East Peoria Walmart and could buy up to $70 worth in gifts. The "Shop with a Cop" program helps kids and families in need find a little joy over the holidays.
"We can get together and help some of the kids or families that are a little less fortunate or maybe are having a tough time this time of year; and show that that's our commitment as police officers to give back to the community and to be a part of the community," said police chief Dick Ganschow.
