PEORIA - The Salvation Army kicked off their season of giving Tuesday.
They teamed up with Toys for Tots to give away toys for kids in need at their 25th annual "Share the Spirit" party. Around 1,000 people came out to the Peoria Civic Center.
Each kid got to pick out one toy that has been donated through the Toys for Tots campaign. The Salvation Army says it is unfortunate to see the number of kids who may not get gifts for Christmas, and they know the donations will mean a lot.
If you wish to donate, drop off any toys at WMBD 31 News at 3131 N. University or at the Bloomington bureau at 2714 E. Lincoln.
"We wish that everybody could provide for themselves that would be great, but we know how the economy goes. Jobs are tough. People need help. So that's why we're glad to be able to do this," said Major Evie Diaz with the Salvation Army.
