PEORIA - Peoria residents are pleading with city leaders to purchase a property they believe should be a public park, And it could be a possibility.

A public hearing a Peoria City Hall was held for supporters of a property called Rocky Glen on Wednesday. The land is nearly 70 acres near Kickapoo Creek in West Peoria. However, the city recently discovered a grant by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources that would allow them to buy and renovate the property.

If approved, the city would purchase the land and it would open  to the public. Supporters of the move say they hope the city takes it seriously.

"Within Peoria County there's probably no special natural areal than 70 acres of Rocky Glen that we're talking about. If it does get purchased, it will be a public treasure," said David Pittman, president of "Friends for Rocky Glen."

IDNR has given a preliminary approval, if the city wishes to use the grant on the property. The city will vote on December 11.
