Governor Pat Quinn granted 81 and denied 88 clemency requests Wednesday. It's part of an effort to eliminate a backlog of cases which have built up during the previous administration. The 169 clemency petitions acted on by the governor are cases which date back to 2005. A granted clemency request for a pardon with expungement allows the petitioner to seek expungement of their conviction through the court system.
