McLean Co. Board Keeps Tax Rate Flat

BLOOMINGTON - McLean County has a budget for next year that should make taxpayers happy.
In September, the county administrator proposed a budget that raised property taxes slightly.
District Three board member George Wendt objected verbally, saying the budget should keep taxes flat.
In order to do that, the administration responded by saying $350,000 would have to be cut from other areas.
Individual board committees then went through the budget and found that money through dipping into reserves, cutting spending and raising some fees in the health department.
On Tuesday, the full county board approved the decreased $79 million budget that keeps the tax rate at the current level.
County Administrator Bill Wasson said the county will be right back in the same spot next year if property values don't improve.
The new budget also gives all non-union workers a 1.5% pay increase and cuts two full-time positions.
