PEORIA-- 5th grader saves classmates life while choking.
Terrius Winters from Mark Bills Middle School was walking to the restroom with his friend last Thursday when he began choking on a jolly rancher.
Terrius said he was scared at first but when his friend started pointing at his throat, he knew exactly what to do.
"I knew exactly what to do because of my mom and grandma", said Winters. He says his grandmother showed him how to perform the heimlich maneuver and his mom discussed it with him.
Winters says he is grateful for the lessons from his family and is happy to save his best friends life.
Winters will be honored at a school assembly on Monday, November 26th.
