PEORIA -- It was a race to the finish line in Peoria this afternoon. Runners laced up their sneakers for the 42nd annual Turkey Trot.
The four mile run is the oldest race in the River City.
About 200 people participated this year. Even kids got to do the Trot with a special half mile fun-run.
Race Coordinator Matt Suellentrop says the nice weather helped attendance. About 50 more people came out Sunday than last year.
Suellentrop said, "Obviously today being so nice, that's partly why our numbers are up so much this year, the weather is nice, as opposed to cold rainy or anything like that."
The reason it's called the Turkey Trot is no accident. It's the week of Thanksgiving, but also, the top two finishers in each division get a trophy and a turkey from Kroger.
