BLOOMINGTON- Landfills caught a break Saturday because of the America Recycles Mega-Recycling event.
Illinois Wesleyan University and Ecology Action Center teamed up to host the day where people could come drop off car loads of old junk.
It was a chance for people to get rid of on-traditional items like electronics, textiles and other things you can't put into curbside recycling bins.
Volunteers hope people realize this wasn't the only day to be an avid recycler.
"We're trying to make it easy and convenient for them to come do it but at the same time raise awareness that they can recycle these about any day of the week," said Michael Brown, executive director at the Ecology Action Center.
For more information on where to drop off recycling on a regular basis, visit the Ecology Action Center's website.
