PEORIA--The Peoria International Airport reports record passengers for the past 3 months.
Gene Olson is the airport director for KPIA and says they had more than 47,000 passengers come through the airport for September. This beats the old record held back in 1978.
Gene says he welcomes the passengers and hopes that the remainder of the year is just as good. He says the reason behind the increase in numbers is do to new destination Punta Gorda and Atlanta.
Olson says Atlanta is the largest connecting hub in the world and since they offer direct flights there people have been choosing to fly out of Peoria instead of driving to Chicago.
