PEORIA- Placher Auctions is trying to sell a two-story building built in the 1950's that used to be a synagogue.
The auction company isn't having much luck. It held an auction on Thursday and no one came to bid. Tim Placher, the owner of the company said he's still going to try to sell the property, located at 3616 N. Sheridan Road.
The building was most recently used by a church, but the Star of David still hangs inside. The structure is severely dilapidated with leaking roofs and moldy rooms.
Those aren't the only things making it hard to sell.
"Right now it's zoned R3 residential and whoever buys it, if they want to do anything other than a church or build a home on it, have to get it re-zoned," Placher said.
He said the property is worth about $600,000, but he's willing to negotiate.
