BLOOMINGTON - People in Bloomington are doing their part to help victims of Hurricane Sandy.
They're rolling up their sleeves to give blood.
The American Red Cross says the hurricane is having a negative effect on the East Coast's blood supply.
There is a call to action in unaffected areas to get eligible people to donate.
OSF St. Joseph Medical Center and the Red Cross are teaming up Wednesday to answer that call with a blood drive for the Twin Cities community.
Donor Darlene Marquart-Halsey said, "I think it's wonderful because when you give blood, each time you're helping someone you don't know, and with that event happening they need that much more blood there."
Donations are going to help replenish blood supplies.
The Red Cross says it has the ability to move blood across the country as the need changes.
