Illinois State Police Push Safety For Halloween

PEORIA-- Illinois State Police urge those trick-or-treating to have fun and stay safe.
Halloween is a time of year for the kids to dress up and hit every house for candy. The Illinois State Police knows it's a fun time of the year but urge those going out to stay safe.
They have listed some tips for drivers and trick-or-treaters.
To help prevent tragedy the Illinois State Police suggest:
Stay off your cell phone while driving
Be alert in residential areas
Be sure to drive with you headlights on so you can spot pedestrians
Enter and exit driveways & alleys slowly
Don't drink and drive
For trick-or-treaters
Always trick-or-treat with an adult until at least age 10
Only trick-or-treat in familiar areas that are well lit
Cross streets at street corners, using traffic signals and crosswalks
Walk on sidewalks or paths facing traffic as far left as possible
Wear light-colored, flame-retardant costumes decorated with reflective tape
Carry a flashlight or glow stick to increase visibility to drivers
