PEKIN - A Pekin factory says damage could have been much worse after the building caught fire Monday afternoon.
It happened around 4:30 p.m. Monday on the 19000 block of Edgewater in north Pekin. A fire broke out at Illinois Machine and Tool Works, an engineering factory.
According to the owner, nearby debris caught fire, but employees were able to extinguish before it reached an air compressed room. Multiple fire departments were on the scene.
Second shift employees were released early, but the factory planned to reopen later that night. The owner says there were only minor damages, but it would have been much worse if flames reached the air compressed facility.
There were no injuries.
