SAYBROOK--In the midst of a local tragedy, a small miracle occurred.
Charlene Durham passed away Saturday, after her home exploded.
But her beloved dog Daytona survived the disaster.
Crews found him Monday morning while cleaning up the damage.
He's being cared for at the Leroy Veterinary Clinic.
Doctors say surprisingly Daytona had no burns, fractured bones, or lung damage.
Even more puzzling, the elderly dog survived after two days without food, water, or prescribed medication.
"He didn't have his seizure medicine or anything, and he's done remarkably well," said Nurse Tami Hobbs. "Luckily the Saybrook Fire Department got him out."
Daytona is expected to make a full recovery.
He'll be given to family this week.
