PEORIA -- Peoria's latest crime report shows robberies have increased by more than a third. The report shows crime rates through September 2012 and makes comparisons to last year.

So far in 2012 there have been 234 robberies - that number is up 31 percent from 2011.

Criminal Sexual Assault is up 22 percent from 2011, with a total of 62 crimes this year.

Aggravated Assault is up 20 percent from 2011, and murder is down. We have one less than we did last year.

Peoria Police Chief Steve Settingsgaard said, "We've seen a spike this year and really last year too. I think some of this is gang-related stuff and not just necessarily formal gangs but violent groups but robbing each other."

All property crimes, including arson and theft, are down by three percent.
