Leading up to Election Day, we're finding out where local candidates stand on the issues. In the 18th District Congressional Race, Incumbent Republican Aaron Schock is being challenged by Democrat Steve Waterworth. Our question: what needs to be done to make college affordable for all students?

Steve Waterworth:
"I think we have to make sure that folks understand that the college education they get, they have to be very careful to understand that whatever their career or field is, that it's going to be a career field that's going to be able to help them when they get out of college to pay off those debts"

Aaron Schock:
"I'm not suggesting that any young person shouldn't be able to go into their desired field of study, but what I do think needs to happen is they need to understand how long it's going to take them to have to pay back that tuition based on the degree they're going into and the expected salary that they'll get once they get that degree. Right now our schools are not doing a good job of educating these young people about thinking strategically about what degree they're going into and then whether or not they're going to get a job that's going to make enough to pay down that debt.
