Bustos, Schilling Face Off in Televised Debate for 17th District

PEORIA- Opponents in a highly anticipated race for the 17th congressional district went head-to-head Thursday night.
Incumbent Bobby Schilling (R-17) and democratic challenger Cheri Bustos faced off in a televised debate. The debate touched on topics such as budget issues, job creation and medicare reform.
Bustos said she will work to include electronic health records and coordinate care for those who need it. Schilling wants to give people 55 years old and younger the option of a different health provider.
Both candidates are based in the Quad Cities area and discussed how they would handle the size of the newly redrawn district.
"I've already said I'm going to reach out to every new freshman member. I'm going to reach across to Aaron Schock if he's re-elected. I'll make sure I'll work closely with him. We're going to do the best we can do for the state of Illinois," said Bustos.
"This is exciting for Peoria because now Peoria doesn't have just one voice. They're going to have two voices. So Aaron (Schock), when we need something in this area, I can look at Aaron and say here's what we're looking at I need your help," said Schilling.
The 17th congressional district covers areas in the Quad Cities, Rockford and Peoria region.
