Local Unemployment Rate Drops

The local unemployment rate dropped in both Peoria and Bloomington Normal metro areas in September, according to a release Thursday by the state. Peoria's rate dropped from 8 percent in August to 7 and a half percent in September while the Peoria area has seen 1300 new jobs in the past year. Meantime, Bloomington Normal's rate dropped to 6.7 percent and just 300 jobs were created in the past year. The biggest increase in jobs came from manufacturing, professional and business services and leisure and hospitality.
