PEORIA- A vacant synagogue could soon be under new ownership.
Wednesday, auctioneers held an open house to see who's interested in buying the property, formerly known as The New Hope Church, on Sheridan Road. The church has been vacant for four years.
It will be auctioned next week and is expected to be sold for at least $600,000 dollars. The property includes a gym, cafeteria, two sanctuaries and multiple classrooms. Auctioneer Tim Placher said he's received interests from small churches looking for more space, but the property could be purchased for other reasons.
"There are the people out here that would buy it for an investment property with the idea of tearing the church down and putting in some other business," he said.
The auction will take place at the church site on Thursday, November 1, at 10 a.m.
