Wednesday, students gathered to watch John McHale's movie, "Picture This: A Fight to Save Joe."
It chronicles the life of Joe Amrine, a prisoner on death row for a crime he didn't commit.
The film narrated by award winning actor Danny Glover helped lead to Amrine's freedom in 2005.
McHale hopes students learn they too, can make a difference.
"What's important is that students realize if they don't get involved and speak out in a democracy, that democracy doesn't work," McHale explained. "Now, I don't know if always speaking out gets the results that we want, but not speaking out certainly gets no results."
McHale is also recruiting people for an organization called the "Documentary Project."
Students create their own movies, which are shown at a spring film festival on campus.
