WASHINGTON -- More economic development is coming to the city of Washington.
An Aldi's grocery store is the newest business under construction. It's being built next to Menards and Walmart off Rte. 24.
Planning and Development Director Jon Oliphant said the city is open to any new development that comes its way.
He said the nearest Aldi's is in East Peoria, and Washington residents are excited for the convenience of the new addition.
He said, "Well they analyzed the need in our trade market and saw it would be a pretty good fit, being located next to Walmart. They typically like to be located next to their competitors and when that lot became available they jumped on it."
Aldi's is set to open next spring.
