PEORIA- The Residency Rule for city of Peoria employees has been ruled out.
Non-union employees who aren't department heads can now live outside city limits.
Tonight, the council approved throwing out the requirement that's been in place since the late 80's.
Now, all workers under department heads can live somewhere else.
They'll have to forfeit 2% of their base pay for their first 5 years on the job.
But, if city employees move into the city of Peoria, the city will cover the closing costs on their home.
The move passed 7 to 3.
Some council members say the city should be encouraging people to move into the city.
The city's union employees aren't required to live in the city.
