PEORIA -- Dunlap Middle School students are lending a helping hand to Peoria's Salvation Army.
The students volunteer twice a month, splitting their time between the downtown headquarters and the Corps Community Center.
On Tuesday, the boys helped sort through storage items in the garage, and the girls spent time organizing the library room.
During some visits, the students serve lunch in the Salvation Army's Shelter.
Eleven-year-old Sammie Roberts shares with us why she is so eager to do her part. She said, "If you start helping people when you're young, it can go into when you get older that you help people and it's really good to help people."
The students are led by two Dunlap staff members. They will be volunteering through the start of next year.
