Bloomington Cracking Down on Illegally Placed Signs

BLOOMINGTON - The City of Bloomington is cracking down on illegal signs.
Political signs always pop up during election years, but some of them are in places they should not be.
The city does not allow any sign in the public right of way. That's the slice of land between a curb and sidewalk.
Signs are also not allowed on any post, pole, bridge, hydrant, tree or any other surface on public property.
And it's not just political signs causing a problem. They're just more prevalent this time of year.
Business advertisements and garage sale signs are also an issue.
Mark Huber, the Director of Bloomington Planning & Code Enforcement, said Tuesday, "The city is not supporting goods and services or particular candidates so they've opted to take the stance that it's public property. That we're not taking a stance on any of the stuff."
Workers are going around to remove illegally placed signs.
If yours is taken, you have seven days to pick it up from the public works yard. Otherwise, it will be thrown away.
