BLOOMINGTON - Drivers across the city might want to let up on the gas.
Police said Tuesday they are seeing an "explosion" in citizen complaints about speeding.
So to help curb the problem, the department is stepping up its enforcement practices.
Officers will conduct special details using new STALKER Lidar LR Systems. They're hand held devices that determine speed by infrared light that moves in a series of pulses.
The light can focus in on one moving object and is not distracted by other vehicles, even in a heavily traveled area.
All officers have to do is point it at the vehicle they believe is speeding.
The department says the details will continue as long as there are complaints.
