13th District Congressional Candidates: Jobs in Illinois

In the race for the 13th Congressional District Seat Republican Rodney Davis is facing Democrat David Gill.
Our question: During the last few months, Illinois'
jobless rate has continued to climb - what needs to be done to reverse this
trend?
David Gill:
I think you can repair and restore anything
here in America when you have representatives in Washington who don't take big
checks from health insurance companies, from oil companies, from Wall Street
banks. We can have jobs in America when the focus is on the well being of
ordinary Americans. We've got these terrible trade deals, we call them NAFTA,
they call them CAFTA, most favored nation style for china. That's nonsense.
But those things happen because you've got
representatives in Washington who take the big checks from Exxon-Mobil like my
opponent does, who takes the big checks from united healthcare and then you've
got an America where people are working harder and harder and getting less and
less for their work.
Rodney Davis:
We need to extend the current tax rates in Washington.
That's something simple that democrats and republicans can do and they've have
a dereliction of duty, both parties. When we do that, the business owners, the
people that we all agree will be the backbone of any economic recovery they
will have the certainty they need to invest in their business and more
importantly invest in people which is the way we create jobs in America.
