PEORIA - An elderly Peoria man must find somewhere new to live, at least in the short term.
The man's house in the 4700 block of W. Redbud Dr. caught fire around 2 p.m. Saturday.
Flames ignited on the front porch, then spread to the house's interior.
The man happened to be on the front porch at the time, but luckily someone nearby helped him escape safely.
However, much of his home is damaged from fire, smoke and water.
At first people weren't sure if the person on the porch was indeed the home's owner.
"It was somebody from within the house, whomever lives here we believe. The cause was on the outside we believe and moved in. We will do some more investigation on that," said Limestone Fire Chief Terry Capps.
Six departments responded to the fire, but only three actually helped put out the flames.
The rest were on stand-by at a nearby staging area.
