Construction jobs in 28 states declined in the past year while 30 states added jobs during the past month, according to a release Friday from the Associated General Contractors of America. Association officials say the monthly gains, while welcome, were too small to offset the larger annual declines in many states. Among the states losing construction jobs during the past year, Alaska lost the highest percentage while Illinois lost 8400 jobs or about 4.4 percent. The contractors blame a lack of action in Washington on a range of tax, spending and infrastructure programs, saying the political uncertainty is affecting many private sector projects.
