EAST PEORIA- East Peoria High School was evacuated Thursday afternoon because of a fire.
Around 12:30 p.m. fire crews in East Peoria responded to reports of heavy black smoke coming from a restroom in the new part of the school.
No one was hurt, but the East Peoria fire chief said the fire looked suspicious. He said the schools sprinkler system put out the fire.
"But now we have water in the school building and we have a moderate amount of smoke, heavy amount of smoke in the bathroom, which is right off the cafeteria, but very light smoke in the actual cafeteria," said Chief Bill Darien.
The fire is now under investigation by the East Peoria fire and police departments.
