MOSSVILLE--A new machine is helping Caterpillar protect the environment.
Tuesday, the company introduced its first hybrid excavator to employees at its Mossville plant.
Also known as a "digger" the Cat 336E H uses 25 percent less diesel compared to current excavators on the market.
Cat product expert Ken Gray says better fuel economy lowers customer operating costs, and helps the environment.
Turns out, the money saved on gas will allow companies to pay for the machine in one year's time.
"The reason we've chosen to introduce the machine now is because we've developed a machine that will actually lower their costs," said Gray. "That makes it a game changer that's huge for our customers."
Cat's new hybrid excavator will be made in Japan.
The company begins production next spring.
