In the 13th district Congressional Race, Republican Rodney Davis is facing Democrat David Gill.
The Peoria Catholic Diocese has filed suit to stop some parts of Obama Care, specifically mandated payments for birth control.
We're asking the candidates if they think the government should work with the Catholic Church on this matter or not?
Gill
"I think that the government should provide appropriate healthcare and I think that access to contraception is an important part of appropriate healthcare. As a physician I see unwanted pregnancies, I see rape and women who have been the victims of sexual assault. I personally was offended when Congressman Aiken of Missouri a couple of weeks ago spoke about legitimate rape and I've listened to politicians from around the country from both sides of the aisle, presidential candidate Mitt Romney condemned those statements regarding legitimate rape and I've been struck by the silence of my opponent in this race."
Davis:
"Absolutely the government should work with the Catholic Church on this matter and give religious institutions like the Catholic Church which I am a member of the Catholic Diocese in Springfield. They should have the ability to stand up for their religious beliefs."
