PEORIA -- Before long, Christmas will be here. So it's time to take action for the annual Toys For Tots campaign. The toy drive kicked off today.
Each year the US Marine Corps Reserve collects new, unwrapped toys for needy children. Over the past 65 years, Marines have distributed nearly a half billion toys to about 250 million children across the country.
"Encourage everybody when they see that Toys for Tots banner or those collection bins to drop off a toy because it will go to a boy or girl who otherwise might have had a little sadder Christmas," said Rich Draeger, Salvation Army spokesperson.
You can drop your new, unwrapped toys at our WMBD 31 studios in Peoria or in Bloomington. You can also take part in the Walter Bros Harley Davidson poker run on November 3rd benefiting Toys
For Tots. Last year they raised $24,000.
