Our question: What are your thoughts on President Obama's government mandated health care law?
I am a person who is in favor of repealing Obama-care and replacing it with a true market based health care safety net by selling insurance across state lines so that more people can ban together in a pool to receive cheaper rates and better access.
I'm a huge proponent of choosing when and where to seek medical treatment. I think that has to be a cornerstone of any plan in America. I think we have the greatest healthcare system in the history of the world and you look at places like Bloomington and Peoria that are booming with medical centers. We have the technology and now we have to make sure everyone has access to that technology and that healthcare.
The Supreme Court has said that it's the law of the land. I think the important thing going forward is that we aim to protect and preserve a strong Medicare program. I think that's something I've talked about for years as a doctor - I know just how critical Medicare is to our senior citizens and I look forward to protecting and preserving Medicare.
I'm running against a man who has expressed support for a budget proposed by Paul Ryan in 2010 that again talked about a privatized voucher program that would ultimately cost our seniors as much as $6,000 more a year over time and I think that's not wise, it's just wrong. I think that we owe our seniors better than some privatized program.
