PEORIA - A Peoria man is in custody again after officers say he escaped their custody Saturday.
It happened around 4:30 a.m. in a parking lot at the old Cub's grocery store at Knoxille and Frye Avenues.
Officers had arrested 20-year-old Courtney Trapps while on an investigation at an address in the 400 block of E. Corrington Ave.
Trapps was wanted on an outstanding retail theft and failure to appear in court warrant.
Once in custody, Trapps asked an officer to roll down the rear window of a police transport vehicle.
Police say he then reached through the window and opened the door using the outside handle. They're unsure if he slipped his handcuffs off or moved them to the front.
Trapps took off, which sparked a heavy officer presence in the area. Even canines took part in the search.
Eventually, officers located Trapps again and re-arrested him.
