NORMAL--A University High School student is drumming his way into the national spotlight.
Thursday, members of the United States Army inducted senior Francis Favis into the "All American Marching Band."
The honor showcases the talents of top student musicians across the country.
Those selected play in the "U.S. Army All American Bowl" which is a nationally renowned football game.
An assembly took place this morning to honor Favis.
The snare drum player will fly to Texas this December to perform at the big event.
"I'm just glad I can bring this great music to this national stage and show everyone what we do, and that music still is important," said Favis. "There have been so many budget cuts around the nation to music programs. I want to show everyone that music does matter."
More than 1,400 high school musicians nationwide applied to get the honor.
Favis is one of only five percussionists to be chosen for the snare drum section.
