PEORIA -- Now that the Dream Center is taking on some of the YWCA's homeless programs, it's asking for the community to help.
The Dream Center Founder and Riverside Church Senior Pastor John King said it will rely on the area churches and giving people of Peoria to make ends meet.
He said with the quick transition, there hasn't been a lot of time for planning and figuring out the details.
The most important thing on his mind is keeping the women and children off the streets. "No one wants to think of mothers and children, which is what we're talking about, actually being put out on the street and we couldn't live with that and we don't believe the community can live with that and that they will rise to the challenge and help us."
The Dream Center is holding its first fundraiser next Thursday, Oct. 18.
The event will feature singer Amy Grant and the night will honor Jim Maloof.
To get your tickets, you can call the Dream Center directly at 676-3000.
