17th District Congressional Candidates on Social Security

As next month's election draws closer, we're finding out where the
local candidates stand on the issues. In the 17th District Congressional
Race, Republican Bobby Schilling faces Democrat Cheri Bustos. Tonight's
topic is social security...we asked candidates how they will work for
the people of Illinois to assure them them that social security will be
there when they retire.
Bobby Schilling:
"The biggest thing that we can do in the federal or state government is create an environment where we can put people back to work. If we go and we get folks back to work that means we've got taxpayers and that's something that is very huge because the more people paying into the system, the longer it goes. What we've got going on in Illinois right now is a pretty scary situation. We were just downgraded yesterday with the outlook being negative, we're second behind California and they have a positive outlook, we have negative. So, it's about the environment, allowing companies like Caterpillar who want to grow in Illinois, to give them the environment of which they're not seeing right now, so that's very very important."
Cheri Bustos:
"Social security is a solemn promise that we've made to our seniors and we've, the seniors that are currently beneficiaries of social security, they've paid into it over the course of their careers. I've paid into it since I started working at a very young age. And we need to make sure that it's financially sound, but we also have to make sure that it's there for the current generation that's a recipient of it, for my generation, my kids' generation and my grandkids' generation."

Comments
Neither of these candidates offer any solutions regarding Social Security OR Medicare.
The voters in the 17th District need to look beyond the two party candidates and Write In Eric Reyes instead.

Cheri, you're right it was a solemn promise but how do you propose to fullfill that promise.
