HANNA CITY -- The Hanna City Work Camp is still sitting vacant, but after more than ten years, Peoria County says a new project could be on the horizon.
The county hopes to use it for agriculture.
Rural Economic Development Director John Hamann said its talking with area farm bureaus and the University of Illinois Extension office.
He said it would be focused on organic farming.
The property includes 38 acres and numerous buildings, including a green house and horticulture spot.
Hamann said, "Mainly, and I think we'd start off on a small scale, there would be growing some crops and we have about 13 acres of open bare ground that could be turned immedately or int the spring maybe, and to start some specialty crops or some small gardens."
He said long term could mean adding other projects including sorting and assembling.
Arrangements are still in the early stages.
