WASHINGTON - Firefighters swear to protect and serve, but firefighters served something a little unusual in Washington.
Monday, the Washington and Northern Tazewell Fire Deparments teamed up with Domino's Pizza in Washington as part-time delivery guys.
While on the job, they checked homes for working smoke detectors. The firefighters asked residents if they had a working smoke detector. If residents' smoke detector did not work, the fire fighters gave away free detectors. If the detectors were functional, residents received a free pizza.
The firefighters also replaced batteries, if needed.
"Yea, delivering pizzas and checking people's homes is always [interesting]. We're called to do anything, so we'll do whatever it takes," said Washington firefighter Brian Barron.
The fire fighters will deliver pizzas Tuesday night from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. October 7-13 is national fire prevention week.
