CHICAGO- In a closely watched congressional race, Congressman Bobby
Schilling (R) of East Moline has been endorsed by the Chicago Tribune over his challenger
Democrat Cheri Bustos in the 17th Congressional race. That race, which
depending on which poll you believe, appears to be tightening. The
Tribune, in its endorsement, applauded Schilling for being "willing to
make tough reforms" and demonstrating he "could take a reasoned stand
and defend it". The Trib also said Schilling was the best choice because
he can "help drive the federal government to fiscal solvency". The
Tribune said Bustos was long on promises to protect social safety net
programs but short on solutions.
