MORTON -- It's the season for pumpkin picking.

Owner John Ackerman of Ackerman Farms said his pumpkins came out on top this fall.

He said his apples were a total loss and like many other area growers, his corn and beans struggled.

But for him, pumpkins are the specialty.

The farm grows 160 different types and has 30 acres to be picked.

He said the weather cut him a little short, but there are still plenty to go around. "The pumpkins actually came out of it really, really well. Pumpkins do really well when it's dry, at least within reason and surprisingly they were the shining star of the crops this year."

Pumpkins start at $5.
